Am I back? Heh. Don’t mind the fact that I look like a damned idiot in this pic. I was surprised to have my picture taken. Besides, the blog format will be switched up soon and I might take my ugly arse off the front page! Hah.
Happy Friday everyone! I just wanted to say a quick note here that the scale is NOT the ultimate judge of whether a diet (or new lifestyle, don’t use the “diet” term) is working. I hear that all the time. Just stick to the plan, and the scale will take care of itself over time.
The whole “high-carb diet is needed for proper training & sports performance” myth is one of the biggest misconceptions out there about. I hear it so much, that I usually don’t even bother to discuss it with people anymore. They’ve been so brainwashed by the “experts”, that they can’t even fathom that it might not be the only way (or even the “right” way).
Lets face it, we live in a world of “sugar-fueled sports”. So it shouldn’t be any surprise that most so-called “Sports drinks” are LOADED with the stuff.
I’m sure that everyone from marathon runners to bodybuilders would not hesitate to tell you that sugar and carbs are a “necessary part” of their training and recovery routine. The funny thing is, they’re dead wrong.
The other day I noticed that someone stumbled upon this blog by searching google for “low carb danger working out” (minus the quotes), and that isn’t the first time I’ve heard that particular myth either. I’ve had several conversations with people at the gym that are completely CONVINCED that you need an adequate amount of carbohydrates for your body to perform properly.
Again, this is another time where “common sense” is totally WRONG…
I took a long walk on a local bike path yesterday afternoon. It was a BEAUTIFUL day here in Albany, New York and I was out to waste as much of it being outside as possible (I only wish I had a brought a fishing pole along, maybe next time). I also broke out the new FlipCam Ultra HD and took some interesting and random footage – mostly just testing the cam and out seeing what it is capable of (and very NOT capable of).
But I noticed a trend that upsets me on several levels…
Want to build some more muscle FAST without killing yourself in the gym? Want to improve performance in your favorite sport / activity WITHOUT endless hours of cardio? Well, here’s a little “fitness hack” that uses the body’s own self-preservation designs to do just that.
Corny sounding but true – before we can go ‘crush it’ out in the real world (meaning, take control of you life and go after what you really want), we should definitely think about doing some physical housekeeping on ourselves first. Ever hear the phrase “My body is a temple”, well, a temple isn’t anywhere near as impressive if its tilting to the side…
Several years ago, I (like many of you probably do) belonged to a “regular” gym. It didn’t work out so well. At the time I was completely convinced that this was the tool that I needed to lose weight, gain my self-confidence back, and turn things around. Maybe I was simply a loose screw and this was the perfect screwdriver for the task. Well, turns out it was backwards hammer instead.
Where did I finally find the RIGHT fit? For now, its with the growing “Cardio Boxing” trend…
Is it right for you? You never know unless you give it a try.
