A Wake Up Call (to Arms)

America is in a downward spiral of unhealthy proportions. I’m not trying to sound all Ted Koppel here, but its sad but true. Peoples eating habits are insane (the so-called “Western Diet” we’ve created and slowly poisoned the rest of the world with), and exercise seems to be relegated to malls, escalators, elevators, and walking to the fridge. I’m as guilty as anyone, for the vast majority of my 20s I drank heroic amounts of soda (Pepsi AND Coke, back then I did not discriminate), lots of beer, sugary alcohol (hello “Jaeger Days”!) and pretty much ate anything that wasn’t red hot or nailed down.

Where did this land me?

Well, for one thing I became (slowly but surely) seriously overweight, and had a handful of problems that come with the territory. Things like Acid Reflux, elevated blood pressure, a 42 inch waist, tons of cavities, and I always seemed to have an ailment of some sort.

A few months ago I turned 30 – which in some ways is like being whacked in the face with a board. One day it just happens while you’re sitting on the side of the road arguing with David Spade. Bam! (Forgive me Emeril) In the past few years my weight has gone up and down, and I’ve been through a lot in my life… good and bad, fun and incredibly not fun. I may have done more than my share of things wrong but I’ve also learned a LOT in the process.

What have I found?

I’ve found a method that works best for me, keeps me excited, keeps the weight way down, and gives me a self-esteem boost that I never thought I’d have. I’ve always been more on the shy and introverted side, it wasn’t until my mid-twenties that I came out of my shell a bit – and even that was more reserved than I would have liked.

Enough about that – this site is going to track my progress, my tips, and everything I learn along the way to total fitness and well being. Please feel free to come with me and try and improve your life for the better as well.

What am I trying a accomplish? Whats the goal?

I want what we ALL want… to feel good, be healthy, and look good. I know it sounds ridiculous to say it outloud like that (or read it silently), but when you LOOK good (or even THINK that you look good) you just have an amazing confidence and mood boost. Did you ever go to work and on that particular day maybe you got up early, shaved extra carefully (or for women, did your hair extra perfect), put on your best “work” outfit, gone in and for the rest of that day – you felt like you could crush the whole world if you wanted? As my friend Jeff likes to say in such situations, “Everything is coming up Jeff!” Its an amazing feeling, but usually our own insecurities drag us down and prevent us from experiencing that EVERY DAY like we should be.

It begins! :)
